In August 2015, Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, Conn., launched a new graduate program in Media Literacy and Digital Culture. MLDC Director Bill Yousman believes that this is the first master’s program in the United States that is focused on a critical approach to media education.
“The MLDC program at Sacred Heart reflects ACME’s mission very well,” says Lori Bindig, assistant professor in Sacred Heart’s School of Communication and Media Arts. “We are committed to independent media education that doesn’t shy away from critiquing issues of concentrated media ownership, hypercommercialism, and the anti-democratic tendencies in today’s media environment.”
ACME co-presidents Rob Williams and Julie Frechette are members of the MLDC Advisory Board.
