We hope you will join us on April 27 for an evening discussion of the film Coded Bias. Shalina Kantayya’s documentary explores the fallout of MIT Media Lab researcher Joy Buolamwini’s startling discovery that facial recognition does not see dark-skinned faces and women accurately, and her subsequent push for the first-ever legislation in the U.S. to govern against bias in the algorithms that impact us all.

In this virtual event co-hosted with the Children’s Screen Time Action Network, and featuring film director Shalini Kantayya and Dr. Criscillia Benford, we will explore how the tech we use doesn’t just fail to overcome racism, sexism, and other biases in our society; it perpetuates them.
To view the film on Independent Lens, register for the webinar. Once we get closer to the event, you will receive a screening link.
See you there!
